The Long Gray Silence

The long gray silence between black and white
is a pregnant cloud waiting to deliver
its downpour; so pervasive
even the heat of the sun cannot dissolve it
nor lighten its burden.
Saturated,
it drifts heavily above our heads;
weeping but never sobbing,
never having an all-out cry.
